Abstract
This study is devoted to one of the principal problems with preparing early modern editions in the Czech language, i. e. transcription or transliteration. It also provides an insight into the publication of early modern sources in neighbouring countries, chiefly Germany and Poland.
It draws attention to the fragmented nature of the binding rules for publishing wrtitten sources in a situation where, despite gradual improvements in connection with the institutionalisation of editing work, there are no uniform, generally aplicable principales for producing editions.
