Post-secularism in Czechia: trends and regional context

Publication at Faculty of Science |
2020

Abstract

The presented publication has the immodest goal of contributing to the general discussion about the role of religion in contemporary society and Czechia, focusing on current trends, which can be described for general clarity by the relatively general term post-secularism, which in most cases does not lead to the return of traditional religious structures. and churches formed in the past, but to a "new" formation of religiosity and spirituality. The presented texts also try to draw attention to the urgent need to focus the analysis of current changes in the religious landscape with an emphasis on multidisciplinary research, especially in geography, sociology and religion.

Post-secularism in Czechia is characterized, for example, by the increase in religious expressions in public space, the intertwining of secular and sacred aspects, and the growing pluralization of religious expressions, often in a non-institutional form. A specific manifestation of post-secular development is the increased religious activities of immigrants, which are presented here on the example of Vietnamese and Koreans.

The publication therefore explains the selected transition from the secular to the post-secular age on selected examples of changes in the religious landscape.
