Criminality in Danish ghetto

Abstract

In the context of the effort to address the gradually deteriorating situation in the Danish ghettos, in 2018 the Danish government prepared a set of measures to eradicate the ghetto by 2030 as part of the so-called Initiatives Against Parallel Society. The most controversial of these measures seems to be the possibility of declaring a so-called stricter criminal sanction zone, in which the commission of selected crimes will be punished by up to twice the penalty rate for a limited period of time than otherwise provided by law for these crimes.

The zone of stricter criminal sanctions will be presented in this chapter in the context of socially excluded areas, where it is mainly anticipated that it will be declared, and its possible conflict with the principle of equality before the law and non-discrimination will be pointed out.
