Abstract

Approximately eight thousand neonates are born prematurely in the Czech Republic every year, ie.t 7.5 to 8% of all childern born in the country of proximately 10 milion residents.. The number of ex-preterm babies has been rising worldwide as well as in the Czech Republic.

The causes responsible for this rise are multifactorial. A specific group of preterm children has their special needs with could only be dealt with by multidisciplinary teams of experts from both medical and non-medical areas of care.
