Liberal trilateral dialogue Czechia, Germany, Poland. Perspectives of regional cooperation: infrastructure and transport
Abstract
A united Europe must grow from below. This is especially true for the countless border regions in the European Union.
Here it is possible to perceive Europe vividly, its benefits are clearly tangible. Border regions have become a model of the unification process, not only due to the elimination of border restrictions, but also due to the endless diversity of active, cross-border cooperation.
Last but not least, Europe lives in border regions also from the involvement of citizens. For liberals, anchoring Europe in the regions is a key question of the future, because without them, Europe has no future.
That is why the offices of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom in Prague and Leipzig have included - together with the Saxon Wilhelm Külze Foundation - the future of the Germany-Poland-Czechia border region in their agenda. Together with our partners, the Polish party Nowoczesna and the Czech Institute for Politics and Society, we will work with experts in politics, economics and science to develop reflections on the prospects of this engaging region at events and in publications.
What you are now holding in your hands is one of three publications. They deal with central topics - transport policy, energy supply and tourism.
In all three of these policy areas, it has already been shown that the Saxony-Poland-Czechia triangle can already present many examples of successful cooperation. In part, however, it is a rather structurally weak region, which can benefit enormously from even more intensive cross-border cooperation.
It is necessary to develop the potential of the region. And that is what we want to participate in.
