Surgical infections of the skin and soft tissues

Publication at First Faculty of Medicine |
2020

Abstract

The book provides a comprehensive overview of the issue of primary bacterial infections of the skin and soft tissues. The comprehensive monograph presents clinical information on the whole spectrum of these diseases, but also has the ambition to expand theoretical knowledge.

Especially in difficult and complicated cases, interdisciplinary cooperation is necessary, which requires the erudition of all involved. The publication is intended both for the daily clinical practice of surgeons and for the general medical public.

The general part of the book deals with the theoretical foundations (anatomy, physiology, immunology, pathology, microbiology), epidemiology and also the general principles of diagnosis and therapy of these diseases. A large space is reserved especially for microbial diagnostics, antibiotic therapy and the principles of surgical treatment.

One of the topics is skin and soft tissue infections as a cause of death. The special part of the book contains chapters that deal separately with limited and unbounded purulent infections of the skin and soft tissues, necrotizing infections, purulent diseases of the hand, periproctal abscesses, infectious complications of diabetic foot, Fournier gangrene and inflammatory diseases of the breast.

The authors of the individual chapters present the clinic's view of the issue with emphasis on the specifics of the diagnostic-therapeutic procedure. The final chapter with rich photographic documentation demonstrates the techniques of reconstructive and plastic surgery on specific cases.
