Abstract

The dying or death of a loved one is something that everybody is likely to experience in his or her life. With helping professionals, this probability is increased by the possibility of them dealing with such situations involving their clients, patients, or people close to them.

General knowledge of how to approach such situations should be a matter of fact for helping professionals. Dying, death, and participation in arranging for a funeral and the related rituals are a significant part of the process of accompanying a dying person and subsequent bereavement.

They form an important fragment of human culture and a humanist approach. All helping professionals should have knowledge of the possibilities associated with dying, options for the accompaniment of a dying person, respectful dressing and casketing of the deceased, and arranging for a funeral, including the costs of funeral services.

A general understanding of these issues contributes to the comprehensive expertise of addiction professionals.
