The gradual increase of power and significance of bourgeoisie business and intellectual elites to the detriment of the traditional aristocracy was a typical feature of social, economic and cultural develppmnet of the 19th century. We see all sorts of variations of recreation at summer residences up to the end of the 19th century.
A summer home could be one's own or rented opulent vill, a smaller house and in the 20th cenntury even a log cabin or a simple countryside building. Secluded buildings, which were often mills, were also an option
