What legal norms regulate skiing in the Czech Republic

Abstract

The article follows a series with a description of cases of ski accidents, the consequences of which were the subject of court proceedings. One of the reasons why the decisions of lower courts are often inconsistent and unpredictable is the absence of special regulation of skiing in the Czech legal system.

The article therefore briefly maps the current general regulation at the level of civil and criminal law in the form of an extract understandable to the ski public, emphasizes the key role of the international FIS Rules, mentions from today's point of view an obsolete technical standard, including their shortcomings. It concludes with the binding nature of the FIS Rules, as the only internationally recognized and long-established code of conduct for skiers.
