Abstract

ABSTRACT Bruininks Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency Second Edition (BOT-2) assesses psychomotor development of children and adolescents by two possible approaches A) complete form (CF) or B) short form (SF). From the perspective of time economy SFof BOT-2 is often widely used.

However, only a few studies has compared results of BOT-2 CF and SF of middle age children. Therefore, the aim of the study was to determine whether the SF will provide comparable results in psychomotor development among middle age school children compared to results of CF.

The research sample consisted of 101 probands (51 girls and 50 boys) aged M = 8.42 (+-0.33) by design selected primary school. Assessed parameters in BOT-2 were fine motor, gross motor, body coordination, strength and agility.

Differences in results between CF and SF were analyzed using paired t-test and the correlations were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficient. The results showed nonsignificant difference (p = 0.26) in total scores between BOT-2 (CF) M = 45.23 (+-7.58) and BOT-2 (SF) M = 44.80 (+-6.02) on p < 0.05.

Correlation between the two forms of the test showed high dependence r = 0,87. The biggest difference in correlations between subtest coordination and total score of the CF and SF were revealed.

For coordination and total score CF r = 0.74; for coordination and SF r = 0.53 respectively. It represents 27% of the explained variance of dependent variable - total score R2 = 27% (CF R2 = 55% and SF R2 = 28%).

The study showed that BOT-2 (SF) seems to assesses psychomotor development in middle age school children without significant difference compared to CF. Therefore we suggest that SF can be used in case of less time.

However, we emphasize that BOT-2 (CF) will complexly evaluate psychomotor development compare to BOT-2 (SF). BOT-2 CF will always evaluate with greater accuracy, especially the coordination.
