The chapter deals with the question which actors (can) exert influence on the position of German in contemporary Europe. Language management theory is chosen as basis for this research.
It concentrates on behavior of various actors toward language. These metalinguistic activities define the key concept of language management.
The questions how diverging interests and conflicts in the field of language policy are managed depends on power of the respective social actor. Cases solved at EU-level, at the level of a member state as well as at the regional level are analyzed.
