Non-infectious complications in common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) patients and their management

Abstract

Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) represents heterogeneous group of primary humoral immunodeficiencies. The main clinical features are bacterial infections, autoimmune/dysregulated complications and tumours.

Prognosis of CVID patients is highly influenced by presence of non-infectious complications. Granulomatous lymphocytic interstitial lung disease and enteropathy causing malabsorption are the most important.

Complications management includes not only classical immunosuppressants, but also biological therapy, mainly rituximab. The most frequent types of cancer are lymphoma and gastric cancer.

Regarding these facts a regular screening is necessary. It is highly recommended to consider genetic testing.
