An analysis of the map projection of the world maps in the 17th century

Abstract

The aim of this article is to introduce a new approach of analysing cartographic projections by means of the Detectproj software. This analysis was carried out on a set of old maps from the 17th century, divided into groups according to the captured area.

Specific cartographic representations and their parameters were investigated. This article describes the history of cartographic projections and their division, also presenting the used data and methodology.

In the conclusion, there are the results and their summary.
