Abstract

Socialist Czechoslovakia as a hub of wealth, natural beauty, and technological innovations. Such image was supposed to be developed by the magazines published by the state since the 1940s for the readers abroad.

To the German-reading ones was designated the monthly magazine Im Herzen Europas (In the Heart of Europe), which was longitudinally run by the respected writer Lenka Reinerová. Her name promised seriousness.

However, the magazine was published at the time when all publications in the country had to obey the communist party censor. In the first study to analyze the Im Herzen Europas, Lucie Römer decided to find out whether it was a social propaganda tool, or not.
