Transitions between colonial, postcolonial and global situations : a case study from Madagascar

Publication |
2020

Abstract

The text is the fifth chapter of the collective monograph of the Asian hierarchy in the postcolonial context: the political, social and cultural dimension published by TOGGA and the Metropolitan University of Prague Press. In it, the author deals with the complex historical development of Madagascar, which was influenced by Asian (especially Indonesian, Malaysian and Indian), African (mainly Bantu) and European (French) influences.

The text shows how even today the colonial, postcolonial and global phases in the development of Malagasy society cannot be separated. Ancient historical events and social, political or cultural configurations are still a tangible part of contemporary Malagasy society.
