The international classification of orofacial pain (ICOP) - the official Czech translation of the 1st edition
Abstract
The first International Classification of Orofacial Pain (ICOP), published in the journal Cephalalgia in February 2020, has established both the terminology and the diagnostic criteria of orofacial pain. The term 'orofacial pain' includes the pain of the structures in the oral cavity and the face below the orbitomeatal line. This classification is divided into seven sections:
1. Orofacial pain attributed to disorders of dentoalveolar and anatomically related structures,
2. Myofascial orofacial pain,
3. Temporomandibular joint pain,
4. Orofacial pain attributed to a lesion or disease of the cranial nerves,
5. Orofacial pains resembling presentations of primary headaches,
6. Idiopathic orofacial pain, and
7. Psychosocial assessment of patients with orofacial pain. In section
5. Orofacial pains resembling presentations of primary headaches, new clinical entities were defined:
5.1 Orofacial migraine,
5.2 Tension-type orofacial pain,
5.3 Trigeminal autonomic orofacial pain,
5.4 Neurovascular orofacial pains and their subtypes. This review provides an introduction to orofacial pain and presents the official Czech translation of the ICOP.
