EUROPEAN UNION PROTECTS THE CONSUMERS. CONSUMER DOES NOT INFLUENCE THE EU

Abstract

Consumer protection is considered as a legitimate justification in the European context, not only by Member States wishing to justify certain obstacles to free movement rights, but by the EU itself as well. The EU has influenced many EU politics and harmonised certain areas under the veil of the consumer protec- tion (e.g. financial regulation, digitalisation and online services, etc.).

However, who is the average consumer which shall need the protection? Does the develop- ment of the consumer behaviour impact adoption of those politics or is it actually the other way round?
