MUDr. František Richter (1870-1951) - Třešť physician-philanthropist

Abstract

František received his basic education at the primary school in Třešť. After eight years of study at the Třebíč grammar school, he graduated.

Then he studied Medical Faculty of Charles University in Prague, where he was awarded a doctorate in general medicine on July 23, 1898. In the same year, he began his medical practice in Třešť.

MUDr. Richter soon gained the reputation of a very wise and educated physician.

He worked as a general practitioner, he was a doctor of Baron Sternbach's family and employees of his large estate, later he was also a city doctor. He had extensive expertise, was an excellent practitioner and diagnostician.

He treated all diseases, repaired fractures and dislocations, tore teeth, and provided births. From 1902 to 1908 he was chairman of the local Sokol.

In 1911, he founded the Záchrana association, which he headed for 37 years. Záchrana was an organization that assured poor families that they were not left without help after the loss of a family member.

He was at the forefront of the fight against tuberculosis and together with the Jewish doctor MUDr. Alfred Singer (1897-1944) founded the League against Tuberculosis in 1926.

In the 1920s, he founded the Živnostenská záložna to help small tradesmen, which he ran for 18 years. MUDr.

František Richter is an example of a general practitioner who has served selflessly and tirelessly throughout his life to the inhabitants of his hometown.
