Congenital laryngeal cyst is a rare disease with varying degrees of clinical manifestations. Transnasal flexible laryngoscopy is a safe and useful method that enables rapid and early diagnosis as well as monitoring the size and progression of a cyst over time.
Rigid endoscopy under general anesthesia will provide accurate information on the nature of airway narrowing with regard to the surgical solution. Endoscopic marsupialization of the cyst is an effective and in the vast majority of cases sufficient therapy of this defect, but sometimes it is necessary to repeat this procedure, or choose a more extensive open approach with the establishment of a tracheostomy.
This case report shows a case of an otherwise healthy boy who was diagnosed on day 2 of life with a laryngeal cyst that required a total of 8 endoscopic procedures by the age of six months (of which 6 to 2 months of age). The boy spent a total of 30 days on artificial lung ventilation, 21 days on non-invasive distension support and underwent 1 nosocomial pneumonia.
