Abstract
The SARS-CoV-2 virus was first detected in late 2019 and has spread around the world in the next few months. It is a highly infectious RNA virus that spreads through droplets and has an incubation period of between 1-14 days.
The course may be similar to influenza, in more severe cases pneumonia, acute myocarditis and multiorgan failure may develop with the development of DIC. There are limited publications on infected pregnant women and their newborns, but the available literature indicates that the vast majority of mothers experience mild to moderate symptoms and the prognosis of newborns is good.
Vertical transmission has so far only been confirmed in a few cases, so the question remains under what circumstances the virus actually enters the placenta, amniotic fluid, vaginal fluid or breast milk. Newborns of COVID-19 positive mothers should be closely monitored after birth.
