Abstract

The author traces the historical literature of the time of Wenceslas IV, especially the works that were created at the royal court. Especially in Prague, Latin diachronic annals dealing with current events were written, the distant past was captured in brief, also Latin, "history in dates".

However, the main interest was in vernacular literature, either in translations or in the original version. University master Laurentius from Březová had the greatest credit for making educational literature accessible to Czech readers and students of court society.

Literature cultivated at the court of Wenceslas IV. it did not serve to promote or ideological justify Wenceslas' policy. However, it satisfied the interest of the monarch and his courtiers in general events, stories of biblical and ancient history, stories about distant lands, and last but not least, the occult.
