Abstract
Pompeii and the area below Vesuvius, affected by the explosion of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, are generally accepted as a pan-European heritage. The reception of this heritage shows its specifics in different parts of the world.
The author focuses on the perception of Pompeii in the historical space of the Czech lands, both in Czech works and in German-language works of Czech provenance. The book also includes Czech translations of ancient literary and selected inscriptions.
