Th e paper has been focused on the documents produced by the universities, in particular by the Prague University (since 1882 by two Prague universities). It monitors both of form and content of the various types of documents, which together illustrate the transformation of studies at the time and witnessed the increasing importance of education in the period for the subsequent application of the trainees.
In addition, they are a testimony to the changing content of studies in various fi elds during the long 19th century, refi nement and specialization of individual focus.
