Antibiotics as a part of irreplaceable natural heritage are frequently overuse and misuse in primary care. Increasing trend in bacterial resistance is alarming and these bacteria are more often causative agents of community acquired infections.
Respiratory tract infections are the most frequent infection in primary care. The article summarizes etiology, diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to these infections and sum up development of antimicrobial resistance of the most frequently isolated pathogens of respiratory tract infections in Czech Republic.
