Abstract

Fluorescence is a method of intraoperative imaging that helps to achieve better postoperative functional outcomes in different surgical disciplines. The most important and well-studied fluorescent dye used in urology is indocyanine green.

This dye can be used during a wide range of urological procedures for angiography and lymphography and for visualization of anatomical features of tissues. Nowadays, the focus of research worldwide and also in the Czech Republic is the intravenous application of indocyanine green during partial nephrectomy.

The pharmacological properties, indications and contributions of indocyanine green during partial nephrectomy are currently well-defined. This article provides an overview of recommended steps for the use of indocyanine green during partial nephrectomy.
