Understanding of pupils with hearing impairments

Abstract

The question of a person's existence within a society is intertwined with the building of a unique code for communication - language. Understanding the content of an utterance is a prerequisite for the intellectual growth of a person and for gaining and developing a myriad of competences.

The text gives a basic overview of philosophical views on the human comprehension of speech and explores the problematic of the comprehension of individuals with hearing and speech impediments. The article presents research which is taking place as part of a wider investigation of the development of civil competencies in pupils with hearing impediments with special attention pay to financial literacy.

In the research the authors used the results of an IQ test and a test of selected economical subjects to predict the options for developing the financial literacy of pupils with hearing impediments.
