Abstract

According to psychoanalysis, fairy tales and dreams can be seen as modalities through which unconscious manifests itself. According to Géza Róheim's theory fairy tales are social transformations of individual dreams.

In general, many similarities (formal, content, and other) can be found in fairy tales and dreams, which can refer to the relationship between the two modalities. Using the fairy tale The Princess with the Golden Star on her Forehead from Božena Němcová, a possible way of exploring fairy tales from psychoanalytic point of view and some theories of fairy tales will be introduced.

Emphasis will be placed on the psychoanalytic theory of Géza Róheim and the theory of the contemporary Israeli psychoanalyst Ravit Raufman, which deals with the meaning of the fairy tale The Maiden in the Chest, which is related to the fairy tale The Princess with the Golden Star on Her Forehead.
