Favorable outcome of NUTM1-rearranged infant and pediatric B cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia in a collaborative international study

Abstract

Fusions of NUTM1 (15q14) define a novel subtype of B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) that is mutually exclusive with sentinel leukemia-driving aberrations based on RNA-sequencing in children and infants. NUTM1 fusions are characterized by increased expression of almost the complete open reading frame of NUTM1 fused to one of several fusion partners.

Downstream effects of NUTM1 fusions include upregulation of the proto-oncogene BMI1.
