The most common bacterial skin infections in children

Publication |
2020

Abstract

Bacterial skin infections are among the most common dermatological conditions for which patients present to paediatricians and skin specialists. However, there may be some delay before one receives an appointment with a dermatologist, a general paediatrician is not always readily available, and emergency medical service for children is usually remote from the sick child's place of residence.

Given the dense network of pharmacies with opening times into the evening and some of them even on Saturdays and Sundays, concerned parents with their child often attend the nearest pharmacy, consulting the origin and possible self-treatment of skin disease with a pharmacist. It is therefore advisable to be familiar with the basic clinical manifestations of bacterial skin infections, which can contribute to improving the daily work of pharmacy workers.

The article deals with the classification, aetiology, and treatment of the most common bacterial skin diseases.
