Abstract

Aim: To identify predictors of the occurrence of the missed, rationed and unfinished nursing care for effective planning of strategies related to the prevention of its presence. Background: Determination of the predictors of the missed, rationed and unfinished nursing care phenomenon in healthcare facilities may contribute to the reduction or the total elimination of this phenomenon.

Methods: The study has the character of the narrative literature review. The search was performed in databases PubMed and ScienceDirect in the period from May 2019 to July 2019.

Overall, 27 studies were analysed. Results: Based on the analysis, we identified significant predictors of the occurrence of the missed, rationed and unfinished nursing care phenomenon.

These were related mainly to the organisational aspects of healthcare facility, to the characteristics of nurses and patients. Conclusion: Identified predictors fall under the competence of the management, from the line to the top.

Management may influence the particular predictors with the aim to ensure the overall higher quality of nursing care as well as increase patient safety and improve the functioning of the workplace
