Under the rule of the first president (1994-2001)

Abstract

The chapter analyses the transformation of the republic from a parliamentary into a parliamentary-presidential (1994) and then into a presidential (1996). The main attention is focused on the processes of consolidation of political power of the first president, Alexander Lukashenka, and related to it processes of political opposition.
