Abstract

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is characterized by impaired social and communication skills. Deficits in this area can be very burdensome for individuals with ASD and can have a negative impact on their quality of life.

The prevalence of ASD in the population is increasing worldwide, underlining the need to find effective educational approaches at all levels of education. This paper presents a way of approaching the education of pupils with ASD in a special needs primary school where approaches based on applied behavior analysis are used and emphasis is placed on the development of verbal behavior.
