Patients with diabetes represent about one third of hospitalized subjects. Their hospital admission may be directly related to diabetes, although majority of cases are other diseases with diabetes as comorbidity.
Diabetes affects not only the major diagnosis, but also the whole course of hospitalization and inpatient care. General recommendations of diabetes care in the hospital are missing in our country and differ according to the particular department.
