Abstract

The Czech Lexicon is a book of reference, a lexicon that provides the needed terminology for the description of classroom practices in a mathematics lesson. It also offers illustrative examples and non-examples of what is meant and not meant by the different terms.

In Chapter 8 the process of evolution of the Czech lexicon of didactical terms for description of facts from educational reality is described. The aim of this chapter is to present the result of the whole process of constructing a Czech Lexicon.

There are 57 terms in the Czech Lexicon. The fact that the Czech language lacks terms for describing a number of classroom events is the consequence of the unsettled terminology in the field of pedagogical terminology.

Moreover, our research confirms that Czech teachers tend to pass many evaluating judgements, discuss the conception of the lesson and assess its quality rather than describe the classroom interactions in general terms. They also tend to use everyday language rather than pedagogical terminology.
