Abstract
Online discussion with experts on the ethics of media portrayal of seniors. One of the great dilemmas of ageism and age discrimination is the problem of boundaries, or what is still ageism and what is no longer ageism.
On the issue of the portrayal of seniors, this decision is doubly difficult: How should seniors be portrayed? Which visual and expressive means are inclusive and dignified enough, and which are already contrary to good taste? Does the end justify the means? Is a senior depicted in bed with reindeer antlers as an "advertisement" for an objectively positive project justifiable, or are we already over the edge? Is playfulness and humor a welcome part of depicting seniors, or does it not fit the dignity of old age? And how has answering these questions changed our experience of anti-pandemic measures in which seniors not infrequently play a central role? Has there been a shift in how the media present seniors over the past year? How are new senior stories still being sought? And who are the main players in setting this "agenda"?
