Respect as the starting point of the education reform process

Abstract

In the Czech Republic, as in many other countries, a major curriculum reform took place in the first decade of the new millennium. More than ten years after the start of the reform, independent research agrees that its implementation and results have been disappointing.

Recently, Janík and his team found out in a representative survey that most teachers have a negative (45%) or neutral (37%) approach to reform, with only less than 20% of teachers accepting and supporting it. Educational reform is always a difficult task.

If we accept the assessment that the reform has not yet met expectations, there are certainly several reasons for this. I offer here one of the possible views, which sees a lack of respect as one of the causes of failures.

It is about respect for knowledge and also for the work of teachers so far.
