Diabetes management is the main predictor of patient's future complications. One of the aspects which affects compensation is the level of diabetes distress.

The concept itself is a young topic in the Czech diabetology. The aim of the study is to chart the context of experienced levels of DD and personality traits in both patients, and their close ones which participate in the treatment.

To detect specific constellations and levels of maladaptive personality traits in patients with T1D and their close ones, an inventory from the Alternative DSM-5 model for personality disorders (AMPD) will be used, and than the relationship to subjectively experienced levels of DD will be described. Patients with T1D and their close ones will fill out a battery of tests (DDS/Parent DDS/Partner DDS, PID-5/PID-5-IRF).

The aim is to have 150 participants in each group (N=450). In practice, it seems useful to approach the issue comprehensively, i.e. to consider patient's personality profile and the whole system which has formed their personality.

The positive effect of a psychological intervention may be first reflected on the somatic level (e.g. by reducing HbA1c), although the level of DD is still high. Consequently, further research must be done to clarify these facts.
