Abstract

During Covid-19 pandemic, especially thieves were likely to be sentenced according to a very strict sentencing range prior to a decision of the Czech Supreme Court mandating that vast majority of Czech offenders is to be sentenced according to a more lenient sentencing range. We quantify the effect of the improper use of harsher sentencing policies on sentences imposed and suggest data-driven policies.
