My contribution to the conference aims to introduce the situation of Hungarian speakers in the Czech Republic. Firstly, their current situation is going to be presented: geographical distribution of the speakers, cultural associations which unite the members of the Hungarian minority (such as Association of Hungarians living in the Czech Republic or various preceding groups (e. g.

Ambrus (2018), Mészáros (2018) or Lacza (2018))) and the legislative concerning minority languages in the Czech Republic, especially the Hungarian language. Secondly, summary of historical Czech-Hungarian (respectively former Czechoslovakian-Hungarian) relations especially in the 19th and 20th centuries is going to be provided (Irmanová (2017, 2018) or Hanzlová (2016)) and compared to the situation in Slovakia (e. g.

Lanstyák (2000, 2002) or Kocsis & Kocsis-Hodosi (1998)). The condition of Hungarian minority in the Czech Republic is going to be presented and theoretically embedded (also) in the context of language contact (and related language loss) and general approaches of government towards minority languages (Appel & Muysken (2005) or Thomason (2001)).

Improvements of the current situation are going to be suggested. This summary of the situation of Hungarian speakers in the Czech Republic is going to serve as a base of a qualitative research, which is going to form the main part of my dissertation project.

The main aim of the research are interferences in the use of Czech language by Hungarian native speakers living in the Czech Republic. Based on interviews with members of different generations of Hungarian immigrants, the interferences from Hungarian and their use in Czech language are going to be analysed.

The topic of the interviews - each participant's own language biography (this method in similar environment was used e. g. by Nekvapil (2000, 2004)) - will help with understanding their language situation and with categorising them (by their type of language acquisition, frequency of use of Hungarian language, generation, etc.). Detailed structural analysis of the gathered data on all language levels is going to follow in the next years.

The research is going to be constructed with respect to research ethics (e. g. Chelliah & De Reuse (2010)).
