Abstract

The paper describes three-generational cohabitation in the west of rural Bohemia in the early 19th century. It tries to find out how frequently this type of cohabitation occured and whether it was socially conditioned.

It also looks at the structure of the oldest generation in terms of age and sex, comparing not only how often elderly men lived in multigenerational households compared to women, but also whether old people went to live more frequently with their daughters or with their sons.
