Abstract

The study presents a summary of the results of a sociological survey among visitors to monuments. The survey took place in June-September 2019 on 22 monuments managed by the NPÚ. 3,399 respondents from all regions of the Czech Republic took part in the questionnaire survey.

The research focused on visitor preferences in the selection of monuments, visitors' attitudes to the types of tours and the demands placed on the work of the guide. Thanks to the representativeness of the sample, the outputs can be interpreted as general attitudes of Czech visitors to monuments.

The results confirm that visitors strongly prefer guided group tours over other types of tours. A key role in the interpretation of the monument is played by a well-trained guide who is able to attract with interesting content (professional, but not encyclopedic) and a good level of spoken expression.

The findings of the research can serve as inspiration for improving tours and guide services.
