Interdisciplinarity in language teaching

Publication at Central Library of Charles University, Faculty of Education |
2021

Abstract

The monograph examines how interdisciplinarity can be implemented into language teaching at the school level. The introductory chapters firstly provide some theoretical background and definition of the key concepts.

Furthermore, they represent and analyse the essential educational documents in the Czech Republic. The chapters aimed at foreign languages, specifically English, French, German and Russian, scrutinize the curricular documents of the corresponding countries, school education programmes for both lower- and upper-secondary levels in the local context as well as selected course books.

All the analyses were carried out from the perspective of interdisciplinarity. The chapter focused on the Czech language exemplifies interdisciplinarity using the cross-curricular topic of media education.

The monograph presents a varied, however coherent view on different approaches towards interdisciplinarity in language teaching including the inspiration from abroad.
