Low-molar-mass amphiphilic oleate derivatives (HA-C18:1) of hyaluronan (HA) can be applied in a skincare and transdermal drug delivery. They namely form aggregates that can easily penetrate the stratum corneum skin barrier and facilitate transport of antioxidants into the epidermis1.

In this work, HA-C18:1 derivatives are prepared in aqueous solvents (t-BuOH and 1,4-dioxane) and the solvent eff ect on the content and distribution of oleate side groups and aggregation properties of the HA derivatives are studied by the DOSY NMR, fl uorimetry (pyrene I1/I3 peak ratio and Nile Red emission wavelength shift) and dynamic light scattering (DLS) methods
