Use of outpatient health services for diabetic patients in Czechia

Publication at Faculty of Science |
2021

Abstract

The paper focuses on the differences in the use of health care on the example of diabetic outpatients. The main assumption is that patients can use health services for more medical specialties that pursue the disease, while it is possible to expect differences in the use of care according to the sex and age of the patient within particular medical specialties.

Patients with a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes mellitus who received health care in 2019 in Czechia were studied. Data were obtained from GHIC CR.

The main medical specialties in charge of treatment management included diabetology, general practice and internal medicine, whereupon more than 95% of patients received care in at least one of them. Within the selected medical specialties, there were significant differences in the structure of patients and attendance.

At the same time, it was found that the highest average number of contacts was held by persons who used health care from several specialties. Although there were differences between men and women, both groups followed a similar trend.
