Psychohistory and Its Application in Pedagogy

Abstract

The lecture outlines psychohistory as a scientific approach combining psychology and history, aiming to describe personality of historical public figure. The approach represents an alternative to the mainstream scientific psychological methods.

It founds its concept on histrorical interpretative approach to the data. It attempts to compile personality portrait of an individual by an analysis of the primary sources.

The main three approaches in psychohistory include psychoanalysis, activity theory and narrative approach. Each of the approaches is presented and its application in the teaching of history suggested.
