Changes in the lymphocyte subpopulations in patients with multiple myeloma

Abstract

Multiple myeloma (MM) is a malignant disease characterized by clonal plasma cells in the bone marrow. The immune system of MM patients is altered by myeloma cells and other surrounding cells.

The most affected cells are lyphocytes playing a key role in the disease's pathogenesis and showing quantitive and qualitative changes. Our study therefore aimed to determine the differences of lymphocytes subsets between patients and healthy donors, and their correlation with the clinical observation (DS and ISS stage, cytogenetics).
