Relay interpreting between Czech sign language and spoken English

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2021

Abstract

The article sets forth the theoretical background and the hypothesis of a future doctoral thesis based on the assumption that contact of Deaf persons with hearing persons on international level entails the need for interpreting and that due to the limited number of interpreters working directly between the national sign language and a foreign spoken language, relay interpreting comes into play, which may result in modality-specific meaning shifts. An outline of the research methodology is included.
