Maintaining a high level of mortality is one of the important causes of the demographic decline in the Republic of Moldova. In this regard, reducing premature mortality is an important reserve in terms of preserving human capital, increasing life expectancy at birth, reducing the demographic decline and maintaining employment potential.
These arguments served as the starting point for this study. The study is aimed to estimate the indicator Potential Years of Life Lost due to premature mortality, to analyse comparatively the structure of the losses registered by age groups and causes of death for both sexes and to estimate the size of their economic equivalent.
