The Lipnice Bible 1421-2021: A Shield of Faith for Turbulent Times

Abstract

The exhibition, which took place from 1 to 15 September 2021, presented the Lipnice Bible from 1421 in the context of the biblical production of its time. In addition to the borrowed original Lipnice Bible from the Museum of the Bible in Washington, DC, there were exhibited four other biblical manuscripts from the collections of the National Library of the Czech Republic (Bible of Sixt of Ottersdorf, Bible of Andrew of Rokycany, Bible of John Gaudencius and a New Testament codex from 1417).

The exhibition presented the Lipnice Bible in a historical, codicological and artistic context. The exhibition took place in the Mirror Chapel of Klementinum in cooperation with the Department of Manuscripts and Old Prints of the National Library of the Czech Republic.
