Abstract
This book is a translation of a classical Arabic work on astrology written by one of the most famous astrologists in the Abbasid court. Abu Ma'shar al-Balkhi (Albumasar, d. 885) is an author of several books including the Great Introduction to Astrology which was translated into Latin already in the 12th century and was widely used by astrologists in both the Middle East and Europe.
His more modest, albeit fun work The Book of Birthdays and Fates for Men and Women includes an introduction dedicated to numerology and later lists the horoscopes of the twelve zodiac signs. According to the Arab tradition it mentions the probable looks and character for every man and women, their successful and unsuccessful sections in life, common illnesses and appropriate treatment, as well as suitable amulets and incantations.
The Czech translation is supplemented with a short introduction and an afterword which put the information into the wider context of Arab astronomy, astrology and divination.
